Things to Consider While Purchasing Bathroom Mirror Lights?

Selecting bathroom mirror lights can be tricky. It should not only look stylish and elegant but also add to the overall functionality of the bathroom. If the light selected is dim, then you will have issues while grooming. On the other hand, if the light is too bright then it can create glare. Thus, the light selected should be both stylish and functional. It should suit the overall decor theme of the bathroom.

What Are the Things to Consider While Purchasing Bathroom Mirror Lights?

● Color rendering index

The color rendering index (CRI) refers to the ability of light to accurately reveal the color of the various objects in comparison to the natural light. CRI is expressed as a rating of 0-100. For bathroom mirror lights, CRI of more than 90 is preferable.

Incandescent and halogen lights are the best as they have a CRI of 100. But if you wish to go for an energy-efficient LED light, then make sure that the light has a CRI of more than 90. This provides excellent color rendering to the bathroom.

● Color temperature

Color temperature refers to the appearance of the light provided by a bulb. A lower color temperature between 2700-3000K is called warm color. Color temperature above 5000K is considered a cool color.

For bathroom mirror lights in warm color is preferable. You should make sure that the temperature of the light does not exceed 3500K.

● Position of the light

If the lights are fixed on either side of the mirror, then there should be a gap of 28 inches between them. It should be fixed at 60 inches above the floor to ensure that the light falls directly on your face.

In case the lights are fixed above the mirror, it should be mounted at a height of 78 inches above the floor or 1-5 inches above the mirror. These are the measurements specified by the American Lighting Association.

● Type of material

Since the bathroom mirror lights do not get wet, you can use regular lights for this purpose. Lights made of glass, metal, and plastic are great choices for bathroom mirrors. You should avoid lights with fabric cover as it can stain easily.

● Size of the light

For small bathrooms with little space for bathroom mirror lights, you should go for a light that is 12 inches wide or less. For large bathrooms, you can choose lights that are 19 inches wide or greater than that. For bathrooms that are neither large nor small, you can opt for lights that are 12-18 inches wide.

● Dimmers

Dimmers help in setting the right mood in the bathroom. To create a romantic atmosphere, go for lights with a low level of lighting. For a bright look, you can opt for a high level of lighting. While purchasing the lighting fixture, you should check whether it is dimmable or not and purchase accordingly.

Bathroom mirror lights serve two purposes. It adds to the brightness of the room and makes personal grooming easy. At the same time, it also adds to the glamorous look of the bathroom. Thus, you should pay great attention while selecting bathroom mirror lights.
